our story

Indus Capital Partners, LLC (“Indus Capital”)
was established in 2000 by six former partners from the Asian equities team at Soros Fund Management:

David Kowitz, Sheldon Kasowitz, Byron Gill, James Shannon, Ben De Somma, and Nowell Chernick. David and Sheldon served as Co-Managing Partners from day one until 2016 when, having already fully or partially relinquished their fund manager responsibilities, the Firm started a successful partnership succession that concluded in 2019 with their retirement. This transition allowed for the next generation of talent and partners to be elevated into senior roles. David and Sheldon currently serve as non-executive chairmen of the firm.

Our current Managing Partner is Byron Gill, a Founding Partner of Indus Capital, who serves as the Portfolio Manager of the Indus Pacific Opportunities Fund. James Shannon, a Founding Partner of Indus Capital, serves as our CEO with oversight of all non-investment functions.

Indus Capital is proud to have retained key investment talent since inception, and during that time has promoted several senior analysts and portfolio managers to partners.

Indus Capital is a limited liability company wholly owned by its partners; there are no outside or third-party investors or partners.

Headquartered in New York, Indus Capital has a team of 51 people spread across a global infrastructure, that includes research offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and San Francisco.
